Accenture is a global consultancy firm and employs about 1,400 people in Belgium. A large proportion of Accenture’s employees have a leasing contract. However, the company switched to a more flexible mobility solution some time ago and implemented a Federal Mobility Budget (FMB) last year. This allows them to use the budget of a lease car for various alternatives.
FMB even repays your mortgage
If employees at Accenture decide to spend less on a company car, they can use the remaining budget for bike leasing, bike sharing, carsharing, public transport, … Even a partial repayment of the rent or mortgage is possible if the employee’s home is max. 10 kilometres from their office. This is how the government is encouraging Belgians to move closer to where they work and thus discourage car use for commuting.
Approximately 25% gives up their lease car
Accenture’s employees are very happy with the variety of options offered by the mobility budget. Since the introduction of the FMB, approximately 25% of people with a lease car have given up their vehicle in favour of FMB. Particularly the option to put the amount towards the mortgage or rent has proven to be popular. Accenture’s employees are young and mostly live in a city. They prefer using bikes, trains and trams rather than to lease a vehicle, which leaves some of the FMB budget to help pay for their mortgage or rent.
“The Federal mobility budget is a game changer for me. It allows me to cover rent and mobility costs, which takes a huge burden off my shoulders,” says Clara Van Kerckhove, analyst at Accenture. “The FMB is a win-win! It promotes sustainable transport options such as public transport, cycling or carpooling and encourages a flexible working style. If more companies in Belgium were to offer similar programmes, we could see a significant shift towards more sustainable mobility.”
Racing towards net zero
The FMB also has advantages for Accenture itself because the corporate fleet has been reduced by 25% since the FMB was implemented. And anyone choosing a car within the FMB chooses an electric car. As a result, the number of cars with combustion engines is disappearing rapidly. And that contributes to Accenture’s goals of achieving net zero emissions by 2025.
“The collaboration between Accenture and Move resulted in a successful roll-out of the Federal Mobility Budget, which symbolises Accenture’s broader commitment to sustainability and improving employee experience,” says Brahim Boujida, HR director at Accenture Belux. “As Accenture continues its journey towards carbon neutrality, initiatives such as the FMB play a key role in encouraging meaningful change within the organisation.”
User-friendly platform
To keep full control of their own mobility budget, employees can use the user-friendly Move platform that is co-developed with Skipr. Employees have an overview of the budget and expenses on the platform. It allows them to request reimbursements for public transport, order payment cards, and much more. The platform makes the transition to the FMB clear and easy for everyone.
“The collaboration with Accenture during this onboarding process went very smoothly,”, says Simon Muylle of Skipr. “Their professionalism and willingness to collaborate meant it was a piece of cake getting the right stakeholders together. It was an absolute joy working with their motivated and friendly team. The result was a seamless and efficient process from start to finish. A big round of applause to Accenture for setting the bar so high!”
Today, sustainable mobility is much more than only electric cars! Employees have different needs and desires in a diverse society and the Federal Mobility Budget cleverly responds to this.
