How to Stand Out with Your Recruitment Process? Create Memorable Moments!

How do you ensure that your organization stands out in this tight job market? How do you attract top candidates? The answer lies in creating memorable moments during the recruitment phase. With automated processes playing an increasingly significant role in the HR world, it's the personal approach that sticks with candidates. The beauty is that you can use technologies like AI to achieve this.

Recently, an article appeared in the media about an organization that offered their applicants a liquor shot before their interview. The idea behind it? To ease the candidate’s nerves, but also to stand out. Naturally, it caused quite a stir, but one thing is certain: it got people talking. This may be an extreme example and not necessarily a good idea. However, it does show how important it is to stand out as an organization during the recruitment process.

Small Gestures, Big Impact

Fortunately, there are many other, more positive ways to create memorable moments—moments that ensure candidates won’t quickly forget your organization and decide that this is the place they want to work. They don’t have to be grand or expensive; it’s all about small, personal gestures. A warm welcome from the reception at a first interview, a simple phone call after an interview from the hiring manager, or a personal email from the CEO can make a world of difference.

From First Interaction to Onboarding: Here’s How to Make a Difference

  1. The First Interaction: Imagine a candidate applies and receives a personal thank-you email within an hour, with an overview of the next steps. This is a simple gesture, but it shows that you appreciate their time and effort and that they know exactly what to expect.
  2. The Interview as an Experience: Why should an interview necessarily be just a formal conversation in a cold meeting room? Make it an interactive experience. Think, for example, of a (virtual) tour of the office, where the candidate can already get a feel for the company culture and meet future colleagues. After a second interview at the office, you could also ask someone to join the team for lunch. These personal interactions leave a lasting impression.
  3. Personal Follow-Up: Many candidates receive a standard email after an interview. What if, instead, you send a short, personal video message thanking the candidate and providing feedback? This shows genuine interest and involvement.
  4. Onboarding with a Personal Touch: The first day at work is always exciting. Ensure that new employees feel welcome from the very first moment. A personalized welcome package with a handwritten note from the team can make a big difference, as can an ‘onboarding buddy’ who guides someone through the first period and serves as an accessible point of contact.

By taking extra time for personal attention and consciously creating 2 or 3 of these ‘memorable moments’ during the selection process, you build a stronger bond with the candidate. This can make the difference between securing your top candidate or losing them to another company.
